Ethelburga Harvest & Planting Party for Urban Food Fortnight!

Urban Food Fortnight takes place, as you have no doubt guessed, over the period of a fortnight all across London.

The fortnight connects restaurants and retailers with London’s edible gardens and small producers, to showcase the best food and drink on offer in the city with special menus, one-off events and supper clubs.

Each year the packed programme of events sees urban growers celebrating their gardens with harvest feasts, pop-up dinners, botanical cocktail nights and foraging walks.

This year for Urban Food Fortnight, we have teamed up with Be Enriched and Cultivate London to create an event that celebrates the full cycle of growing, cooking and eating food in London, bringing together our weekly community canteen and our new kitchen garden that is now in full bloom!

The event will take part in two parts:

Autumn vegetable planting session, 5.30pm - 7pm

We will be holding an autumn vegetable planting session, during which drinks and nibbles will be supplied by local producers, giving people the chance to not only plant food that will be used by the community going forward, but also to pick up some new skills and knowledge related to food growing and cooking.

Community meal, 7.30pm - 9pm

Food provided during the event will be grown and harvested in the community kitchen garden spaces within the Ethelburga Estate, Battersea and from London based surplus food suppliers including City Harvest. The dinner will take place at the Battersea Canteen, an initiative run in partnership with Be Enriched and London Cooking Project. The Canteen’s wonderful chefs will devise a fantastic seasonal menu around the food that’s growing in the kitchen garden and will be cooked on site for all to enjoy at the dinner.

The Battersea Canteen is open once a week at London Cooking Project on Tuesday evenings and provides low-cost meals for local people or anyone on a low income or in need of company. The Canteen is run by Be Enriched and their team of volunteers and meals are put together using surplus food that would have otherwise been thrown away by local shops and markets.

For this special harvest and planting event for Urban Food Fortnight, produce will also be provided by the community garden and Cultivate London’s main site in Acton.

All are welcome!

There won't be alcohol for sale but guests are welcome to bring a bottle.
