In partnership with Cultivate London, we are building a community kitchen garden outside London Cooking Project on the Ethelburga estate in Battersea.
Cultivate London is an innovative urban farm and social enterprise based across multiple derelict sites in West London. They train unemployed young people in landscaping and horticulture, and work to engage the local community in food growing.
As with many inner London housing estates, there is limited green space. However outside our kitchen there's huge scope to turn the area into a beautiful urban garden to be enjoyed by all.
The garden will create an apprenticeship scheme for someone in the local area and produce from the garden will be fed back into the kitchen. Resident chefs and supper clubbers will be able to make a donation for produce with all income returning to fund the project.
Our other charity projects will also benefit - our community canteen on Tuesday evenings will receive food donations and families taking part in our free cooking sessions on Saturday mornings will have the opportunity to get involved. Low-cost produce will be made available for local residents and weekly volunteer and free training sessions will also be offered to people in the local community.
Cultivate London are leading community gardening days, every other Friday, 10am - 6pm. The sessions are open to anyone and we very much encourage kids to come down after school.
Gardening will take place across the London Cooking Project kitchen garden, the Ethelburga Community Garden and outside the Community Centre.
No need to book...just show up!
Sessions started on Friday 4th May and take place every fortnight. To check dates have a look at the LCP calendar or email Emma on
